On Love

My father often spoke about his life long quest to explore what love is. He tried defining it in ways that made sense, that was logical even though love is closer to a metaphysical concept. His search began before my birth and continues now through me 7 years after his passing. He spoke about Erik Fromme's writings, about the difference between love and libido, on how he still loved my mother after their separation and divorce. I learned a great deal from my father about the nature of love and it's power to nurture and redeem and help others.

There is need by me to utilize the head when viewing the heart. I believe many of us do this. The head is logic and the heart is emotions and passion and the center of love.

I'll start with this:

This new class, Hustle & Cha-cha Beg.II is a lot of fun. Starts Wed. at 8pm for 45 minutes, bring a friend or just come and dance. Hustle will spin you around to party music and Cha-cha brings out those latin moves in all of us which make us sweat. Men are the leaders on the dance floor, so c'mon guys. Women love men who dance.

Ballroom Dancin Fools got a Makeover

Say hello to the new and improved look of the Ballroom Dancin Fools website. It's clean, fresh and I disinfected that odor of sweaty dance shoes that was giving the place a bad smell . . . Also take note and change the links in your bookmarks to www.BallroomDancinFools.com, the infamous ".vpweb" is out! Still some minor changes I'm working on but the overall look is complete. (Screenshot just for the archives...)

Lastly for you dancers, if you haven't already discovered, a syllabus for each dance is in the process or has been added to the main page. So far we have available for download are the Bronze steps for Salsa, Swing, Tango and Waltz. Study up, you dancin' fools!

We are starting a NEW Foxtrot & Swing class for Beginners for 4 weeks starting Tues. Aug. 2. It will be held in Guilford in a private room; so no sharing the space while other dance lessons can confuse you. Please sign up today, it will be a lot of fun.

Friendly Competitions

Yesterday's ballroom competition at DIR in Branford was a lot of fun. It started with the Smooth/Standard session at 11am followed by Latin/Rhythm from 3-6pm. At least 3 Studios participated, DIR, Karen's brother Brian's and Ballroom Dancin Fools. It is the type known as a Friendly comp, which means that the dancers are judged against a standard, earning points up to 100, in four categories. DIR chose: Lead/Follow, Expression/Style, Rhythm & Timing and Technique. BDF student Kimberly Sullivan danced well, earning points on a good frame and posture. Congrats Kim on your first Comp!

Have you dancers noticed that the Arthur Murrays and Fred Astaire studios have only white teachers? Funny isn't it? I mean, could they be discriminating against African-Americans and Latinos when hiring instructors? Please offer some feedback.
